Gandikota
Canyon Run
India's grand canyon. Almost no one knows it.
Gandikota in Andhra Pradesh is one of South India's most dramatic geological surprises a 300-foot gorge carved by the Penna River, flanked by a 13th-century fort that stands largely in ruins, largely alone. The landscape here is unlike anything else in the region: ochre rock faces, dry Deccan scrub, and sudden viewpoints that appear without warning. This is a longer trip, and the drive or ride through the plateau is as much the experience as the destination itself.
WHAT YOU'LL EXPERIENCE
Gandikota Gorge Viewpoint
Towering 300-foot rock walls plunge dramatically to the river below, creating one of South India’s most striking and least-crowded landscapes.
Gandikota Fort
Explore crumbling ramparts, old granaries, and the riverside Madhava Temple at your own pace within this atmospheric historic stronghold.
Open Roads of the Deccan Plateau
Long, flat stretches of quiet highway make for an easy and deeply satisfying ride across the rugged interior.
Sunrise at the Canyon Rim
If you stay overnight, dawn over the gorge delivers one of the finest sunrise views in peninsular India.
The Silence of Gandikota
More than a destination, it is the rare stillness of the place that stays with you long after you leave.
