Chola Coast

This route connects two of the Cauvery Delta's most remarkable sites. Darasuram's Airavatesvara Temple is a masterpiece of 12th-century Chola craftsmanship intricate stone carvings packed into a compact temple that most visitors walk past too quickly. Further east, Tharangambadi is stranger and more surprising: a small coastal town where a Danish trading company built a fort in 1620, and where that fort still stands on the edge of the Bay of Bengal. The delta roads between them flat, lined with paddy fields and casuarina groves  are some of the most serene in Tamil Nadu.
